Familiar Ground I Leonie Sinden

£354.00

School of Fine Art, Critical Practice

Leonie Sinden’s artistic practice focuses on the experience of spaces. Using existing structures and objects, Leonie works with photography and the process of collecting and assembling to explore and visualise notions of emotional and physical space. She has an interest in how the subconscious politics of value and ownership are evoked in the materiality of our surroundings. Literature and text form an important part of her practice, largely because of her background in illustration. Leonie is part of a Fine Art collective ‘Pause/Play’ that exhibits in independent galleries in London, Brighton and Hastings.

On Familiar Ground:

Familiar Ground captures a moment in which a young girl walks home from school: the act of walking, travelling across a known space, yet the first steps of independence gained. The act is then repeated, across the same path, daily, over a number of years. Within it become moments that we can sometimes overlook but are an invaluable part of becoming aware and present of the world around us.”
